Entry# 6 The lovely Bones
The lovely bones is a touching story of how the story develops. The book's author said that the story was based on actual events of rape and murder of a young girl in Norristown, Pennsylvania, who was kidnapped in the 1970''s. Although the afterlife part, where the protagonist watches her family from heaven, is not real.
The movie begins with Susie Salmon introducing herself as a kid who later becomes a fourteen-year-old teen. Throughout the film, she narrates her thoughts and emotions leading up to her death. On December 6, 1973, Susie took her regular route home from her school through the cornfield in Norristown, Pennsylvania. George Harvey, her 36-year-old neighbor who lives alone and builds doll homes for a living, persuades Susie to take a look in the secret room he had recently built in the field. Once she entered, then proceeded to assault and murder her. He dismembers her body and places her remains in a safe, and dumps her in a sinkhole. Susie's life flees towards her own paradise, and feeling so, she rushes past Ruth Connors, a schoolmate considered a social outcast.
From her heaven, she watches her family as they suffer in grievance after her death of not finding her body or getting a lead of what happened to her. As she watches, she is in pain and wants revenge on the person who hurt her. Susie's dad Jack thinks his daughter was murdered by someone she knew. After some research on his neighbor's, he has the suspicion that his neighbor Harvy is the killer. Although he could not find any evidence, he follows Harvy into a cornfield; he stumbles across one of Susie's friends Clarrisa and his journey ends. But he wasn't the only one suspicious of Harvey Susie's sister also suspected him. One day as she was tacking her running routine, she saw Harvy leaving his house, and she proceeded to enter his hose and search for any kind of evidence pointing he killed Susie. Lyndsey looks around finds a sketchbook where she sees many of Harvy's drawings. As Lyndsey goes through the sketchbook, she sees the drawing of the room, the lock of Susie's hair, and news articles about Susie's disappearance. Harvey comes back and nearly catches Lyndsey at his house, but she manages to get away. This causes Harvey to flee. Susie, in her afterlife, learns that Harvey, who has now targeted Lyndsey as his next victim, has murdered six other girls.
Unfortunately, Harvey never gets captured, but as he tries to get his next victim, a popsicle falls on his shoulder, causing him to slip and fall to his death. Susie gets to rest in peace and continues to watch her family form her heaven.

ReplyDeleteTo this day, this movie is one of the most heartbreaking movies I've seen! The scene where Susie's sister, Lyndsey nearly gets caught by Harvey is one of the most suspenseful scenes ever, and had the audience hooked. In the end though, Susie finally being at peace is such an emotional moment.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a very interesting movie now I really want to watch this! It's pretty much a biography of Susie's life and I love biographies because you get to learn about how different people's lives are and how everyone deals with traumatic stuff in their lives. It also seems like an inspiring and heart-warming story that deserves to be told. It's a story about a teenager being kidnapped and killed, so we need to spread the word because kidnapping and murder are very serious situations. It needs to stop and we need to do anything that we can to prevent it.
ReplyDeleteOh man... I've seen that movie twice now and both times I felt my heart break. I do remember being confused while watching the film cause in the book the author was very blunt and forward about Susie being raped and murdered. Maybe it's cause it's been quite some time since I've seen it, but I remember being a bit disappointed by them beating around the bush about that.
ReplyDeleteHey, Angelica. Your four new blogs are looking pretty good. You have nice layout and visual appeal most of the time (careful of big blocks of text), and you are working to develop your content to move more deeply into the significance of the topic and ways it connects to your reader. Keep it up!
