Entry # 8 Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan – Rums the Reader

The book got adapted to a slightly different movie from the movie, but both are amazing.
Rachel Chu is a teacher at NYU teaching economics where; she met Nicholas Young through a friend of hers, and since then, they have dated for 2 years. So Monday, Nick decides to invite Rachel to his best friend's wedding in Singapore for her summer vacation. But things did not go as he expected; he would soon find out what his family was really like. Soon as his mother, Eleanor Young, found out he was bringing a girl home, she got private investigators to get background information on Rachel. She wanted to know who she was going against and if she was worthy of being Nick's girlfriend. Eleanor came to form a wealthy family, but her husband's family was considered an outsider even here. Throughout the years, she worked hard to be acknowledged but gave up trying to make herself be seen or recognized. Eleanor instead dedicated every second to making Nick the perfect favorite grandson to be the heir of the family wealth one day. Su Yi Young is the matriarch of the family, and everything has through her, and Nick is her favorite grandson; even though she hasn't said it, it can be concluded that the way she treats him from the rest of her grandsons and granddaughter. Su Yi doesn't like to socialize and likes to stay at her home in Tyresel park, but when Nick was the best man's groom, she went out in public just to see him in front of the aisle. Everything seemed to be going well in Nick's eyes; he had brought Rachel to meet his grandmother even though it was brief and had dinner with his mom, but he did not know how Rachel was treated when he wasn't present. In his family's eyes, she was seen as unimportant, like she was just Nick's pass time. in other people's eyes, she was seen as a golddigger, and they hated her for that; they did an awful prank on her. His mom saw her as a peasant and insignificant person unworthy of her son, and she got her girlfriends to gang up on Rachel. Nick thought Rachel was having a pleasant time, and Rachel never brought it a, though she couldn't understand why people would behave like her love for Nick was greater, which she let slide until that night. That day Nick had planned to propose to Rachel and took her to his grandmother's house in Malaysia, and everything was going fine; they were having the best time of their lives. But he did not know that the moment he commented to his mother, his plans with Rachel were the worst thing he could have ever done. Eleanor knowing she was willing to do anything to stop it, got Su Yi to back her up. When Nick and Rachel arrived, they were both in for a surprise as they saw Nick's mother and grandmother waiting for them. Su Yi told Nick she would give her blessing, but Nick did not care and insisted on proposing. Seeing his, Eleanor brought her final card. Eleanor revealed that Rachel's dad was still alive, which Rachel was shocked to hear and fainted. This led to the breakup and Rachel not wanting to speak to her mother, Kerry Chu. Although Nick was unwilling to give up on Rachel and decided to do everything to get back with Rachel. In the end, everything worked out. Rachel spoke with her mother again thanks to Nick, and it seems they got back together at the end of the book.
